Server monitoring

Every server needs to be monitored. This requires professional hardware, software, and people.

Each failure resulting in system or server downtime is usually preceded by certain symptoms. In order not to overlook any threat and fully monitor all server parameters, it is necessary to have specialist hardware and software. It is also necessary to have people who are able to quickly spot the imminent threat and respond to it properly. And we have all that.

Continuous server monitoring enables us to respond to failures which have not yet occurred. In this way, we avoid downtimes of the company servers and applications, and prevent damages.

Server monitoring services include:

• Monitoring the database
• Monitoring the e-mail server
• Monitoring the updates
• Monitoring the current workload (number of users logged in through SSH), disk resources, pings (monitoring them enables us to detect moments when the server is unavailable or test packets are transmitted too slowly for another reason),
• Monitoring the processes (process numbers and times, zombie processes which only devour resources)

Equally important, and sometimes even more important, is continuous monitoring of physical server parameters, including:

• Temperature of the motherboard, processor, and hard disks
• System cooling (fan rotation speed)
• Physical parameters of hard disks
• Software- and hardware-based RAID arrays
• Network connections (both at the physical and logical layer)
